The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has predicted that Eidul Fitr will fall on March 31, as the month of Ramadan is expected to last 29 days.
According to a statement issued by Suparco, the new moon of Shawwal 1446 AH will be born on March 29 at 3:58 pm.
By sunset on March 30, the age of the moon will be approximately 27 hours, making it visible to the naked eye.
The statement further elaborated that the angular distance between the moon and the sun on March 30 will be around 16 degrees, while the moon’s altitude at sunset will be about 14 degrees.
Based on these calculations, Suparco anticipates that the crescent will be easily visible across Pakistan. However, the final decision on the moon sighting rests with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Saudi Arabia’s Eid prediction
The Suparco statement also commented on the moon sighting prospects in Saudi Arabia, stating that the likelihood of spotting the crescent on March 29 in the kingdom is minimal. At sunset in Makkah, the moon will only be around five hours old, reducing visibility chances.
According to the commission, the crescent is expected to be sighted in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries on March 30, leading to the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr on March 31, 2025.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene towards the end of Ramadan to confirm the moon sighting in Pakistan and officially announce the date of Eid-ul-Fitr.
