Dubai International Airport had anticipated a busy two weekends, with nearly 4 million passengers expected to pass through as the month of Ramadan was about to be concluded and the Muslim holiday of Eid Al-Fitr to began in April.
According to details, the airport had been preparing to receive over 3.6 million guests from March 26 to April 7 during the Eid travel peak.
The busiest day of the holiday period was predicted to be Saturday, April 5, with 309,000 travelers expected to depart. Departures during Eid week had been projected to increase by 19 percent compared to the average weekly volume in February, with daily traffic expected to average 276,000 people.
The Eid holiday coincided with the spring break for schools in April, which led to a surge in travel to destinations such as India, Pakistan and the UK.
Leisure travel had also increased to places like Sri Lanka, Turkiye and Italy.
To assist passengers during this hectic period, Dubai Airport had launched DXB Express Maps, a smart navigation app offering real-time directions across all terminals.
The app had been designed to ensure smoother journeys for passengers by allowing them to scan QR codes on flight information screens to find their gates and explore various dining and retail options.
