Following public backlash and media coverage, the Lahore Zoo administration has significantly reduced entry ticket prices, bringing relief to visitors.
The decision came after Samaa TV highlighted the steep ticket costs, prompting authorities to take immediate action.
Previously, the entry ticket for the Lahore Zoo was priced at Rs300, which has now been reduced to Rs100. Similarly, the complete package, which earlier cost Rs1,100, has now been adjusted to Rs500. The price of the hologram ticket has also been slashed from Rs600 to Rs300. Meanwhile, the aquarium and reptile sections continue to have separate tickets priced at Rs200 each.
Public outrage over expensive tickets
The high ticket prices had sparked widespread criticism, especially during the Eid holidays when families thronged the zoo to celebrate. On the third day of Eid, a large number of children and adults visited the Lahore Zoo, but many parents were dismayed by the excessive charges.
Parents voiced their concerns over the high cost, arguing that entertainment venues like zoos should be accessible to all, especially during festive seasons. Some even questioned the zoo administration’s justification of providing a Rs600 discount on the complete package of Rs1,100, which still remained expensive for many.
Zoo ticket prices in other cities
While Lahore Zoo witnessed a ticket price reduction, visitors in other cities experienced varying entry fees.
Peshawar Zoo prices:
-
Adults (12 to 60 years): Rs40
-
Children (1 to 12 years): Rs20
-
Senior citizens (above 60): Free entry
-
Students: 50% discount (Rs20 per ticket)
Karachi Zoo ticket prices:
-
Adults: Rs50
-
Children: Rs30 (but on Eid, all visitors were charged Rs50)
-
Karachi Zoo Train Ticket: Doubled from Rs50 to Rs100 on Eid
Additionally, Karachi Zoo offers separate tickets for attractions like Bhoot Bangla and Mumtaz Begum.
Call for govt action
Visitors across Pakistan have urged authorities to ensure fair pricing at recreational spots, particularly during holidays. Many believe that making zoos more affordable will encourage families to visit and educate children about wildlife.
