Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on Iranian authorities to arrest those responsible for the killing of eight Pakistani citizens near the Pak-Iran border in Iran’s Sistan and Balochistan province.
Terming the attack a heinous act of terrorism, the prime minister stressed the need for exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
According to Iranian media reports, unidentified gunmen opened fire at a workshop in Mehrestan district near the Afghanistan border, killing at least eight Pakistani nationals who were working there as car mechanics.
Six of the victims were residents of Khanqah Sharif, a rural area of Bahawalpur, while the remaining two hailed from Tehsil Ahmedpur Sharqia.

Expressing deep concern, PM Shehbaz Sharif demanded that the Iranian government share the motives behind the deadly attack with the public.
“Terrorism remains a grave threat to the entire region,” he said, emphasizing the need for a joint regional strategy to eliminate terrorism.
Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to immediately contact the victims’ families and provide all necessary assistance.
The premier instructed the Pakistani Embassy in Iran to ensure the prompt and safe repatriation of the deceased.
