The National Assembly, in a rare show of unity, passed a unanimous resolution on Monday expressing unwavering solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine amid ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza.
The session, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, saw all parliamentary parties — both from the government and the opposition — come together to condemn what they described as “criminal Israeli crimes” against innocent Palestinians.
The resolution, presented by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, strongly denounced Israel’s continued military operations in Gaza, highlighting that over 1,600 Palestinians have been martyred since the latest wave of aggression began on March 18.
“The House expresses full solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters and strongly condemns the silence of the international community,” the resolution stated.
Among its key demands, the National Assembly resolution called for:
-
Immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
-
Recognition of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations
-
Stronger action from the global community to end the violence
The session was later adjourned indefinitely.
Tarar slams political point-scoring over Palestine
During the session, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar took a firm stance against politicizing the issue of Palestine. Without naming anyone, he criticized those attempting to gain political mileage and called for unity on the matter.
“Politics should not be done on the Palestinian issue. This House must remain sacred for such discussions,” he said.
He also emphasized Pakistan’s clear stance against recognizing Israel, stating: “It is written on our passports that travel to Israel is not permitted. We do not accept Israel nor believe in its legitimacy.”
The minister praised South Africa’s courage for taking Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over genocide allegations and acknowledged Al Jazeera’s role in exposing ground realities from Gaza.
“If it were not for Al Jazeera, the world would not have seen the destruction. Their journalists became martyrs, but never compromised on coverage,” he added.
Humanitarian support for Palestinians highlighted
The minister also shared heartening updates about Pakistan’s ongoing humanitarian assistance to Palestine. He announced that:
-
Over 200 Palestinian children are being brought to Pakistan for medical education.
-
Al-Khidmat Foundation has sent several tons of relief goods, routed through Egypt and Jordan, earning special recognition in the House.
The minister concluded with an emotional appeal: “We love the land of Palestine. Let our actions and words send a strong message — we stand with Palestine in every situation.”
