Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich puts the direct cost of the war at about 1 billion shekels ($246m) a day to the country.
Israeli media reports said that Smotrich did not have an assessment of the indirect costs on an economy partly paralysed by the mass mobilisation of military reservists and Palestinian armed groups’ rocket attacks.
He also commented on S&P Global’s downgrade of Israel’s outlook to “negative” from “stable”, saying that the revision was “alarmist” and that he did not anticipate major Israeli deficits despite the crisis.
The finance minister said Israel's annual budget will be modified in the wake of the war with Gaza.
