Fears of a potential monkeypox outbreak have prompted local authorities to impose a 12-day smart lockdown in the Pump House Ghundi area of Jamrud, Khyber District.
According to a notification issued by Khyber Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Bilal Shahid Rao, the lockdown comes in response to a confirmed monkeypox case in the area.
The smart lockdown will remain in effect for 12 days, during which entry and exit from Mohalla Pump House Ghundi will be strictly prohibited, the notification said.
To maintain essential services, only a limited number of businesses will be allowed to operate. These include shops selling food items, pharmacies, general stores, tandoors, and emergency services. All other businesses and activities will remain suspended during the lockdown period.
Strict instructions have been issued to the Jamrud assistant commissioner and the Khyber Police to ensure full implementation of the lockdown measures. Authorities have warned that legal action will be taken against violators who fail to comply with the restrictions.
The administration has urged the public to cooperate with officials and follow health guidelines to curb the potential spread of monkeypox in the region.
