Over 165,000 Afghan refugees allegedly illegally residing in Pakistan without identity documents have fled so far since the government ordered 1.7 million of them to leave or face arrest and deportation.
Officials said that the majority of Afghans rushed to the border crossing as the October 31 midnight deadline approached and police began to open up dozens of holding centres to detain those arrested for not leaving.
