The United States has said that it supports Pakistan’s reforms for economic stability, and would continue to do so.
These comments were made by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller during a press briefing.
The spokesman was asked to comment on America’s views on the fact that Afghanistan’s economy in terms of the dollar rate is four times stronger.
Miller responded: “I’ve spoken to this on a number of occasions about our support for reforms that would allow the improvement of the economy in Pakistan, and will continue to do so.”
The spokesman was then asked another question about the US ambassador to Pakistan’s visit to the office of the election commission and how the State Department or diplomats have anything to do with going and meeting the chief election office of any country.
To this, he responded by saying that he would refer to the American embassy for comment on the meeting.
He, however, added he would reiterate that the US did not take any position with respect to the outcome of an election in Pakistan.
“We do not support any one political party or any candidate in Pakistan. But we of course urge free and fair elections in Pakistan, as we do throughout the world,” he stressed.
