Karachi police on Wednesday arrested five people in connection with fire in RJ Shopping Mall on Rashid Minhas Road on Saturday, which resulted in 11 deaths.
A case had been registered in the aftermath of the devastating inferno that erupted in a software house.
The suspects include the software house's owners including Imran and Adnan, mall administrators including Sultan and Faizan, and security in-charge Abid Shah.
The police are investigating the cause of the fire, but a report suggests that the negligence of the mall administration may be to blame.
The First Information Report (FIR) filed at Shah Faisal Police Station pointed fingers at various entities involved in the construction and maintenance of the ill-fated shopping mall.
Meanwhile, the inquiry report also revealed that the fire erupted at 5am, rapidly engulfing the entire mall.
Panicked individuals trapped within the building were compelled to use stairs and an electric lift in desperate attempts to escape the inferno.
Tragically, some patrons sustained burn injuries, with several succumbing to the severity of their wounds during treatment at different hospitals.
An alarming revelation from the FIR was the apparent absence of firefighting equipment within the mall premises.
