The Sindh High Court has asked the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to explain why it has registered three women as the mothers of a 17-year-old boy in Karachi.
The boy's biological mother, Sadaf, has filed a petition with the court to have the error corrected.
The court heard the petition on Thursday and issued orders to NADRA to respond.
The petitioner's lawyer, Nasir Ahmad, said in the petition that NADRA's records show that the boy, Umar Raza, has three mothers, which is a mistake.
The lawyer said that the boy's parents are divorced, but the NADRA records now list his grandmother, mother, and stepmother as his mothers.
The lawyer argued that this error could have serious consequences for Umar Raza, including hindering his education.
