In a fervor of anticipation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly concluded the selection of host cities for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9.
Sources privy to the development said thar Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi will play the pivotal role of venues, showcasing the cricketing prowess of more than 450 overseas and local players.
The proposed schedule, as disclosed by the national cricketing body, envisions the kick-off of PSL 9 in Lahore on February 19.
However, concerns have arisen among franchises, questioning the feasibility of the cold weather and potential fog affecting team activities.
Peshawar Zalmi is fervently lobbying for the inclusion of Peshawar as a venue, assuring the PCB that ongoing stadium improvements will be completed within two months. Despite their appeals, the PCB remains mum on the inclusion of Peshawar in the list of host cities.
Yet another quandary emerged regarding the final venue, Karachi, scheduled for March 19. Franchises apprehend that the National Stadium's capacity may not be fully utilised, impacting ticket revenue.
In a gesture of solidarity, PSL 2021 winners, Multan Sultans, have proposed an alternative by offering to host the final at the Multan Cricket Stadium, expressing confidence in drawing a substantial audience.
The official schedule for PSL 9, set for revelation on December 13 alongside the PSL 9 Draft, has the cricketing community on the edge of their seats.
Recently, the PCB disclosed the list of retained players by all six franchises, unveiling surprising exclusions of several prominent names.
The draft saw Islamabad's strategic move of trading their first pick in Platinum with Quetta, acquiring the highly sought-after pacer Naseem Shah along with two players, Abrar Ahmed, and Mohammad Wasim Junior.
Subsequent trades involving Quetta, Multan, and Rilee Russouw transpired, showcasing the dynamic player shuffle leading up to the grand event.
