As winter sets in and the demand for gas increases, the authorities are preparing to hike the tariff for the commodity in Sindh and Balochistan. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority will hear an application from the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on December 18 in Karachi.
The SSGC has demanded a further increase of Rs226.18 in the price of gas.
The current average price of gas in the region is Rs1,470.21. The new average price of the company has been requested to be fixed at Rs1,696.39.
The SSGC is estimated to have a revenue shortfall of Rs47.77 billion this fiscal year. The shortfall in Balochistan is estimated to be Rs95.40 per MMBTU. A request has been made for an increase of Rs150.67 under transmission and distribution.
The difference in tariff owing to the fluctuating value of the rupee of Rs40.96 has also been asked.
The OGRA will hold a hearing on the request of the Sui Southern company on December 18 in Karachi.
