The chilly embrace of winter tightened its hold on various parts of the country on Monday, as rain showers blanketed regions including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir.
However, the aftermath of the rain has brought forth its own set of challenges, as rivers swelled to the brink, exacerbating concerns for citizens already grappling with the wintry conditions.
Meanwhile, in Lahore, a drizzle descended upon different areas, casting a pall of gloom over bustling streets. Drops of rain were reported around Liberty Chowk, Kalma Chowk, Gulbarg, and Gaddafi Stadium, contributing to a palpable drop in temperatures across the city.
The onset of cold winds in Lahore has further intensified the chill, underscoring the winter's unyielding grasp on the region.
Heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa claim lives, injure several
On the other hand, the recent heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have resulted in the loss of lives and injuries as multiple houses succumbed to roof collapses across the province.
Among the victims were a child and a woman, underscoring the indiscriminate impact of the natural calamity.
Reports emerging from various districts paint a grim picture of the aftermath. In Sada district of Karam, an eight-year-old child tragically lost their life while four others sustained injuries when the roof of a house collapsed under the relentless downpour.
Similarly, in Swat and Dir, a woman and a man were fatally injured as their residence couldn't withstand the force of the rains, leading to the collapse of the roof.
The devastation didn't spare Bara Aka Khel either, where two women were grievously injured due to another roof collapse incident. The series of incidents highlight the vulnerability of residential structures to the fury of nature, especially in regions prone to heavy rainfall.
Amidst the rescue and recovery efforts, authorities are also grappling with the challenge of reopening roads blocked by snowfall in the upper areas, including Dir. These endeavors aim to restore connectivity and facilitate the movement of resources and aid to affected communities.
