The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM) has pledged its support to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the process of government formation.
Sources reveal that during a meeting between MQM representatives and the PML-N coordination committee, the MQM expressed its willingness to form a coalition with the PML-N in the broader national interest.
A preliminary draft outlining the government formation was presented to the MQM, pending consultation with its leadership. Another meeting between the MQM and the PML-N coordination committee is scheduled for further discussions.
The MQM delegation, comprising Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori, Mustafa Kamal, and Dr. Farooq Sattar, met with Ishaq Dar, Ayaz Sadiq, and Muhammad Ahmed Khan from the PML-N negotiation committee upon the latter’s invitation.
According to the MQM spokesperson, the meeting focused on devising a collective strategy to address the challenges confronting the nation, particularly those affecting the citizens of Sindh. The MQM has agreed in principle to a 3-point constitutional proposal presented by the PML-N for their inclusion in the government, pending support for the proposed amendments.
Underlining the shared responsibility to resolve the country's issues and navigate it out of crisis, the spokesperson highlighted the priority of ensuring constitutional safeguards for the devolution of powers and resources to the grassroots level.
In informal remarks to journalists, Governor Sindh Kamran Tesori affirmed that the MQM has assured full support to the PML-N in government formation. An official announcement regarding this partnership is expected to be made today.
