The Sindh government on Monday announced a public holiday on April 4 to commemorate the death anniversary of former prime minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
According to a notification issued by the provincial government, all government offices, autonomous bodies, and educational institutions under its administrative control will remain closed.
The announcement comes shortly after the Eidul Fitr holidays, which are set to conclude on April 2 in the province.
Meanwhile, in a significant tribute to the late leader, President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday conferred the country’s highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Pakistan, on Bhutto.
The award was presented in a ceremony held at Aiwan-i-Sadr, where Bhutto’s daughter, Sanam Bhutto, received it on his behalf.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 1973 to 1977, was executed on April 4, 1979, after a controversial trial.
