In response to recent reports circulating on various websites, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a statement today, clarifying the procedures and responsibilities regarding the taxation and registration of mobile devices within Pakistan.
Contrary to some claims, PTA emphasised that it plays a crucial role in facilitating the registration of mobile devices through its Device Identification and Registration Database (DIRBS) system without imposing any charges on the general public.
The primary clarification made by the telecom authority is that taxes and duties related to mobile device registration are not collected by the PTA itself. Instead, these taxes and duties are applied and directly collected by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
PTA clarified its role as providing technical support through the DIRBS system, enabling applicants to register their mobile devices for legal use within Pakistan.
This system aims to curb the usage of counterfeit or unregistered mobile devices, ensuring the security and compliance of mobile devices in the country.
In response to inquiries about the current applicable taxes and duties for the registration of different devices, PTA directed individuals to visit the official FBR website for accurate and up-to-date information. The FBR website offers comprehensive details on the taxation policies and procedures for mobile device regularization.
For more information on mobile device registration and taxation, please visit the official FBR website at https://www.fbr.gov.pk/mobile-devices-regularization-dirbs/51149/131261.
This clarification from PTA aims to ensure transparency and inform the public about the division of responsibilities in the mobile device registration process, ultimately benefiting consumers and promoting compliance with regulations.
