Severe earthquake tremors were felt across Islamabad, parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Gilgit-Baltistan on Saturday afternoon.
According to the National Seismological Center, the earthquake measured 5.9 on the Richter scale and struck at a depth of 94 kilometers. Its epicenter was located near the border region between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, a seismically active zone known for triggering tremors across northern Pakistan.
Tremors were reported in Islamabad, Lahore, and various districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan, with people seen reciting the Kalima Tayyaba as they evacuated buildings.
Despite the strength of the quake, no immediate reports of casualties or property damage were received from any of the affected areas. Emergency response units and local administrations have been placed on alert, and citizens have been advised to stay calm and follow safety guidelines in case of aftershocks.
Pakistan is situated in an active seismic zone, and quakes of this magnitude, particularly originating from the Hindu Kush region, are not uncommon.
