Federal Minister of Defense Khawaja Asif has candidly expressed his reflections on Pakistan's involvement in the Afghan war, admitting that it has brought detrimental consequences to the country.
During an interview on Samaa TV program “Red Line with Talat Hussain", he acknowledged his rocky relationship with the establishment in the past.
The defense minister disclosed that the decision to oust Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had been finalized, citing private conversations where General Bajwa alleged a rift between Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz for a decade.
Despite regretting General Bajwa's extension, Asif admitted to endorsing it due to party consensus, even though he initially opposed it.
Regarding his own role, the PML-N leader took responsibility for supporting General Bajwa's extension, despite disagreeing with the decision.
He expressed readiness for any potential confrontation, urging General Bajwa to hold a press conference if he disagrees with Asif's stance.
Furthermore, Asif revealed internal party dynamics, noting Mohsin Naqvi's outstanding performance in Punjab and his consequential appointment.
He also shared his surprise at learning about his own electoral defeat in 2018, emphasizing the unpredictability of political outcomes.
