Gujarat Titans clinched their second IPL victory by thrashing Sunrisers Hyderabad, propelled by Mohit Sharma's impressive bowling figures of 3-25 and David Miller's unbeaten 44 at the Narendra Modi Stadiumin Ahmedabad on Sunday.
The showdown witnessed Gujarat restricting Hyderabad to 162-8. Undeterred, the Titans chased down the target with seven wickets and five balls to spare.
Despite Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins' nostalgic return to the stadium where he led Australia to a World Cup triumph, it was Gujarat who dominated the proceedings. Shubman Gill, the Titans' skipper, lauded the team's performance, emphasizing the crucial role played by the bowlers in restricting Hyderabad.
Gill's own contribution of 36, along with an attacking start led by Wriddhiman Saha's brisk 25 off 13 balls, set the tone for the chase.
The pivotal partnership between impact substitute Sai Sudarshan and David Miller, worth 64 runs, turned the tide firmly in Gujarat's favor. Sudarshan's departure for a valiant 45, courtesy of Cummins, didn't deter Miller, who anchored the innings alongside Vijay Shankar, guiding Gujarat to victory with an unbeaten 30-run partnership.
With 49 runs required off the last 30 balls, Miller and Sudarshan seized the initiative, hammering Mayank Markande for 24 runs in the 16th over, effectively sealing the match.
Meanwhile, Mohit Sharma's disciplined bowling dismantled Hyderabad's batting lineup, claiming key wickets, including that of Abhishek Sharma. Rashid Khan's spin wizardry added pressure, dismissing Heinrich Klaasen.
Reflecting on the match, Cummins admitted that Hyderabad fell short by 10-15 runs and credited Gujarat's bowlers for their exceptional performance. The defeat marked Hyderabad's second loss in three matches, dampening their hopes after their 2016 title triumph under David Warner's leadership.
