In a move ahead of the upcoming tour of New Zealand, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Monday the appointment of former Test cricketer Azhar Mahmood as the head coach of the national team.
This decision comes amidst rigorous preparations for the challenging five-match T20 series against the Kiwis.
Azhar Mahmood, a seasoned veteran who represented Pakistan in 164 international matches, brings a wealth of experience to the coaching staff. With 162 wickets and 2,421 runs under his belt, Mahmood's expertise is expected to fortify the team's performance in the series slated to take place from April 18 to 27 in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
Notably, Mahmood previously served as the bowling coach with the Pakistan Men's Cricket Team from 2016 to 2019, showcasing his dedication to nurturing talent and refining skillsets within the squad.
Wahab Riaz, Saeed Ajmal take key responsibilities
Alongside Mahmood, the coaching staff is bolstered with esteemed names in cricket. Wahab Riaz assumes the role of Senior Team Manager.
Renowned cricketer Mohammad Yousuf is appointed as the batting coach.
Furthermore, Saeed Ajmal, a stalwart in spin bowling, continues his role as the spin bowling coach, imparting his extensive knowledge to the squad.
The sports staff of the Pakistan team is meticulously curated to ensure comprehensive support and training for the players. Wahab Riaz serves as Senior Team Manager, supported by Mansoor Rana as Team Manager.
Aftab Khan joins as the Fielding Coach, while Cliff Deacon and Drax Seaman assume the roles of Physiotherapist and Strength and Conditioning Coach, respectively. Talha Butt brings analytical insights as the Analyst, ensuring strategic planning and performance optimization.
