As Muslims around the world celebrate Eidul Fitr, the spirit of joy and compassion has reached even the confines of Punjab's prisons.
The Punjab Prisons Department facilitated Eid prayers in jails across the province, allowing inmates to partake in the festivities amidst their confinement.
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab Prisons Department, Prisons Inspector General of Police Farooq Nazir joined prisoners and staff members at the District Jail in Lahore to offer Eid prayers. This gesture underscored the importance of inclusivity and compassion during this auspicious occasion.
The spokesperson shared that on the occasion of Eid, prisoners were provided with vermicelli, meat, and pulao. Furthermore, with the generous support of philanthropists, the poor, women, and juvenile prisoners were gifted new clothes and various other gifts, spreading smiles and joy amidst the confined quarters.
The spokesperson further said that a series of meetings between prisoners and their families continued in the prisons throughout the day. Relatives were also allowed to provide food and approved items for the prisoners.
In recognition of the dedicated service of the officers on duty, the prisons IG also announced a reward of Rs3,000 per person for those stationed at the watchtower.
