Arsenal's Emirates Stadium is set to take centre stage as the main home ground for the women's team starting next season, propelled by an unprecedented surge in interest, the club revealed on Tuesday.
The announcement outlines plans for 11 exciting matches to grace the Emirates turf in the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, featuring eight Women's Super League (WSL) showdowns and three potential Champions League clashes, contingent upon qualification for the group stages. Notably, any home legs in Champions League knockout ties will also dazzle spectators at Emirates Stadium.
While Emirates Stadium assumes the spotlight, Arsenal's Meadow Park ground in London's commuter belt will continue to host remaining fixtures, including all domestic cup matches, ensuring a dynamic blend of venues for fans.
The decision follows a remarkable season where six WSL games held at Emirates Stadium attracted an average crowd of over 52,000, marking two sell-out events and setting three new WSL attendance records.
Vinai Venkatesham, Arsenal's chief executive, hailed the phenomenal growth in supporters attending games at Emirates Stadium as a pivotal factor behind the strategic move, signalling a new era for Arsenal Women.
Jonas Eidevall, head coach of Arsenal Women, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from fans and anticipates the electrifying atmosphere of Emirates Stadium, as it becomes the team's primary home ground. With excitement brimming, the team eagerly awaits the opportunity to perform in front of larger crowds every week, cementing a special bond with supporters and propelling Arsenal Women to new heights.
