Legendary Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram has poked fun at India's T20 World Cup squad, saying they won't have the excuse of being tired during the upcoming tournament.
Akram's comments came after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final, which didn't feature a single Indian player from the World Cup squad.
In an interview with Sportskeeda Cricket, Akram joked, "At least this time, Indian players won't say they're tired. They were thinking ahead, prioritizing the country over the IPL final." He added, "It could be a blessing in disguise for India."
Akram had previously expressed concern about the Indian team's fatigue, given their packed IPL schedule. However, with the first batch of players, including captain Rohit Sharma, leaving for the USA on Saturday, Akram believes they'll have enough time to recover. "It's T20, the boys will recover. Fitness levels are high nowadays."
India's T20 World Cup squad includes Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and others. They'll face Ireland, Pakistan, USA, and Canada in the group stages, starting from June 5 in New York.
