Karachiites are set to face another spell of hot weather starting Thursday, following a brief respite earlier this week.
According to the latest forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city's weather is expected to turn hot and humid over the next two to three days.
Today's maximum temperature was recorded at 34.7 degrees Celsius, close to the seasonal norm of 35.7°C. However, the Met Office has warned that temperatures are likely to rise above normal, reaching up to 36°C on Thursday and Friday. Despite the heat, the sea breeze will continue to blow, providing some relief to the residents.
Earlier this week, a drop in temperatures was observed due to the restoration of sea winds, offering a much-needed break from the heatwave conditions that had gripped Karachi for nearly a month. The resurgence of hot weather, however, is expected to test the endurance of Karachiites once again.
Meanwhile, in contrast to Karachi's forecast, rain in the upper regions of the country has brought a significant reduction in heat. Various cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced rainfall, breaking the persistent heat spell.
A statement from the PMD on Monday highlighted that thunderstorms and precipitation are expected to subdue the hot weather in the upper and central parts of Pakistan. The regions likely to benefit from this change include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Diamir, Astore, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Murree, Galliyat, Quetta, and Zhob.
