The milk price in Karachi has seen a significant hike as dairy farmers and wholesalers reached an agreement with Commissioner Karachi, raising the price by Rs 20 per litre.
During a consultation meeting that spanned several hours, Commissioner Karachi met with representatives of dairy farmers, wholesalers, and retailers to deliberate on the price adjustment.
Following rigorous discussions, it was mutually agreed to implement the Rs 20 per litre increase, and the new price of milk is now set at Rs 220 per litre, marking a notable increase from previous rates.
Under the new pricing structure, milk will be available at the retail level for Rs 220 per liter, while the farm rate has been set at Rs 195 per liter. The wholesale price is established at Rs 205 per litre.
An official notification regarding the price increase is expected to be issued later today.
This adjustment comes after dairy farmers initially demanded a farm rate of Rs 250 per litre and a retail price of Rs 297 per litre. However, the final agreement reflects a compromise between the various stakeholders involved.
In a move to ensure compliance, Commissioner Karachi has obtained written affidavits from dairy farmers, wholesalers, and retailers, committing to strict adherence to the new official prices.
The official rates will be prominently displayed at all milk shops, and wholesalers are required to issue invoices to retailers based on sales price and quantity, ensuring transparency and quality control.
The stakeholders have assured Commissioner Karachi that there will be no further demands for a price increase until December 31, 2024. Additionally, they have pledged their cooperation with the administration to enforce the new official milk prices.
