In a surprising turn of events, a case has been registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders under the Anti-Terrorism Act, attempted murder, and robbery charges for participating in a protest in Islamabad.
The protest, which took place outside the National Press Club, was peaceful, but authorities claim that the protesters engaged in violent behavior.
According to the FIR, the protesters allegedly snatched a tear gas gun from an official, tore the uniform of Sub-Inspector Tanveer, and stole a sheet from another official. The protesters also blocked the road, causing traffic congestion.
The case has been registered against three PTI candidates, Shoaib Shaheen, Amir Mughal, and Ali Bukhari, who contested the National Assembly election from Islamabad, along with 80 other individuals. Ten people have been arrested in connection with the case.
The use of the Anti-Terrorism Act against political protesters has raised concerns about the government's approach to dissent. The act is meant to combat terrorism, not suppress political expression.
The PTI leaders have denied any wrongdoing and claim that the protest was peaceful. The case has sparked outrage among PTI supporters, who see it as an attempt to silence political opposition.
