Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) gazette notified that citizens and industries of Karachi will no longer be able to use groundwater free of cost like electricity.
From now onwards, water will also be metered — a gazette notification has been issued.
The extraction, use, and sale of water from the ground will be monitored by the city government.
Notification will apply to the Karachi Division and its surrounding areas.
As per the notification, corporations, commercial use, hoteling, and educational institutions are all included. The notification will also apply to residential complexes, apartments, flats, and high-rise buildings.
“Only individual residential houses will be free to use groundwater,” gazette notification.
Important revelations in the meeting with the Council of Economic and Energy Journalists of Mayor Karachi.
“The process of installing digital meters will start from August 1,” Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said. Murtaza Wahab said citizens were urged called not to install water meters in industrial areas.
