A nationwide campaign against power theft has been launched, as a decision has been taken to prepare a list of areas where the theft is prevalent.
The power secretary has decided to prepare a list of areas where theft is being reported during an emergency meeting with the distribution companies. A list of those who resist shall be prepared.
The meeting between the distribution companies and the Power Division secretary was attended by all the chief secretaries of the country and police chiefs of all provinces.
The meeting was also attended by LESCO Chief Executive Officer Shahid Haider and Customer Services Director Rai Muhammad Asghar.
A spokesman of LESCO said it was decided to take all possible measures to prevent electricity theft, and for that matter a list will be prepared of areas experiencing power theft.
Another list will be prepared of those who resist the LESCO staff deputed to check power theft.
The spokesman further said that assistance will be sought from law enforcement agencies, commissioners, deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners.
Those misbehaving with the LESCO staff as well as electricity thieves will be meted out exemplary punishment, he added.
