The Anti-Terrorism Court has announced plans to accelerate proceedings in cases involving PTI Founder Imran Khan and others, lodged at Sangjani and I-9 police stations. From July 8, the court will convene daily hearings for these cases.
The court also sought a written reply from the superintendent of Adiala Jail regarding the video link appearance of Imran Khan.
During the proceedings on Monday, the court addressed a request for exemption from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI leader Amir Mughal's attendance, emphasizing that such requests will not be entertained.
"This is no reason that you cannot appear in court for being out of the city," he remarked, and asked if a suspect's absence is his/her responsibility or of the court. To this, the PTI lawyers replied that it is on the suspects to ensure their attendance.
Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra warned that arrest warrants will be issued for all absent suspects.
Lawyers representing the PTI assured the court of ensuring the presence of all suspects at the next hearing. Judge Sipra warned that those absent on July 8 will be declared absconders, adding it was not necessary to wait for 30 days to declare someone a judicial fugitive.
"The court is committed to expediting these cases. If there is substance in these cases, they will be pursued, otherwise they will be thrown out," stated Judge Tahir Abbas Supra.
The cases have been adjourned until July 8, with the court focused on swift resolutions unless circumstances dictate otherwise.
