On the order of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Nepra and the FIA have started an overbilling inquiry and it has been directed to return the extra sent bills to the customers after the inquiry.
The overbilling was committed under the pro rata system (basis based on the total Energy withdrawn during the relevant Settlement Period (Amounts Payable) instead of Rs3000 bills, Rs8000 bills were issued to the customers.
Lesco sources said the investigation licked off on a stern notice from the prime minister over complaints of overbilling of millions of rupees to protected customers.
Sources further claimed consumers received inflated bills this month through the new pro-rata system.
The high-level committee will determine the relevant ministry and Lesco officials’ responsible. A report will be forwarded to the Prime Minister's Office for action against officers involved in the overbilling scandal.
“Overbilling report will be compiled by tomorrow evening. Investigations started on strict notice of Prime Minister,” sources said.
Customers who received pro-rata bills would get their money back.
Sources further claimed the pro-rata system was approved by consultant of ministry Saqib Jamal and the Lesco administration.
