Vicky Kaushal’s much-anticipated film Chhaava, based on the inspiring life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is all set to stream on Netflix starting April 11, 2025.
Following its theatrical release on February 14, the movie saw a massive response at the box office and is expected to cross the Rs. 600 crore mark by this weekend.
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan for Maddock Films, Chhaava portrays the valiant and resilient journey of one of India's greatest warriors, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, played by Vicky Kaushal. In a statement, Vicky Kaushal expressed his pride in portraying such an iconic figure. "Playing Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was an honor beyond words," he said. "His courage and legacy deserve a global platform, and with Netflix, we’re ensuring his story reaches every corner of the world."
The film’s soundtrack adds depth to the film’s emotional narrative, with music by the legendary A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
Producer Dinesh Vijan shared his excitement, stating, "After an incredible run in theaters, we’re thrilled to bring this story to Netflix. Chhaava is more than just a story of courage; it's a celebration of legacy, sacrifice, and resilience."
In a turn of events, Chhaava has been the target of piracy, with the film being illegally circulated through over 1,800 internet links. On March 20, a case was filed with the South Cyber Police Station of Mumbai's crime branch following a complaint from Rajat Rahul Haksar, CEO of an anti-piracy agency working for Maddock Films. The illegal distribution has raised serious concerns about the impact of piracy on the film’s legitimate theatrical run.
