The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mobility Authority has announced a fare increase for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Peshawar, with the hike ranging from Rs5 to Rs10.
This change, effective immediately, reflects an effort to address the growing financial deficit faced by the BRT system.
According to the newly issued fare schedule, passengers travelling on some routes will see a Rs5 increase, while fares on other routes will be raised by Rs10. Specifically, the fare for the route from Chamkani to Hayatabad will increase from Rs50 to Rs60.
Children under the age of five will continue to travel free of charge when accompanied by their parents. Additionally, senior citizens aged 60 and above will benefit from a 50% discount on fares through a special card, maintaining their access to affordable transportation.
The fare increase has been approved by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The decision follows recent rises in petroleum product prices, which have impacted operational costs for the BRT system. The adjustment in fares is expected to help mitigate the financial deficit of the BRT and improve its sustainability.
The new fare structure has been implemented immediately, affecting all BRT services across the city. Passengers are advised to check the updated fare schedule and plan their journeys accordingly.
