Iran has decided to seal the border with Afghanistan given terrorism concerns.
Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021, there has been an increase in terrorist activities in the region and especially in the neighboring countries. Several terrorist organizations under the influence of the Taliban, such as the TTP and the Islamic State of Khorasan, have safe havens on Afghan soil. Recently, Iran has decided to seal the border with Afghanistan given the incidents of terrorism.
According to the Iranian media, there has been a substantial increase in terrorist activities in Pakistan and Iran by terrorist organizations under the auspices of the Taliban. Fed up with the growing threat of terrorism, Iran has started implementing a plan to build a 300-kilometer-long and 4-meter-high wall on the Afghan border.
Earlier, Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani said that the recovery and activation of terrorist groups in Afghanistan is a great threat to the region. Terrorists came to Iran from Afghanistan in the Kerman bombing, due to which the country's security has been severely damaged.
According to Caspian News, since the Taliban regime, there has been a serious increase in terrorism and drug trafficking by illegal immigrants through the Afghan border. More than 8 million Afghan citizens are illegal in Iran, of which 5 million have been deported by the Iranian authorities. The eastern and southeastern regions of Iran are also used as a main route for drug trafficking into Europe.
