Recent revelations have shed light on the communications between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Rauf Hasan and foreign journalists, according to security sources.
Mobile phone forensics indicate that Hasan had established contact with Ryan Grim, a foreign journalist, as early as January 2024.
The sources disclosed that Hasan's outreach to Grim began formally on January 21, 2024, when he invited Grim to attend a virtual convention of the PTI. Subsequent interactions between Hasan and Grim occurred periodically, covering various issues.
In one notable instance on June 8, 2024, Hasan reportedly sent a message to Grim, requesting confirmation on a piece of content purportedly authored by PTI's founder.
According to security sources, Grim inquired, “Is this content written by you? We will not reveal your name.” This indicates a level of sensitivity surrounding the content in question.
The security sources further noted that Hasan had also contacted Grim via WhatsApp call to discuss the matter in detail. Significantly, Grim has previously written several articles supporting the PTI, with various pieces appearing on different dates.
