The monsoon season has made its entry into Karachi, bringing with it a mix of light and heavy rainfall across various parts of the city.
The ongoing showers are accompanied by strong winds, as the monsoon system, originating from Indian Gujarat, has settled over Karachi.
According to the Meteorological Department, this rainy spell is expected to continue until August 31, with the city likely to receive between 150 to 200 mm of rain.
In response to the forecast, the city administration has declared a rain emergency, and a dedicated cell has been established at the Chief Minister's House to monitor the situation.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has instructed all Divisional Commissioners to remain on high alert around the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens.
The rain has affected several areas of Karachi, including Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan-e-Memar, Airport, Bahadurabad, Tariq Road, PECHS, Malir, Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Defence, FB Area, and Buffer Zone.
Despite the precautions, the heavy downpour has led to waterlogging in various parts of the city, particularly in the area around Saddar Empress Market, where roads have become nearly impassable for residents.
Thunderstorms and gusty winds continue to accompany the rain, creating further challenges for the city's residents. With the monsoon spell expected to persist, authorities are urging citizens to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary travel to stay safe during this period.
