On September 4, 1965, the fourth day of the war between Pakistan and India, military actions intensified on both sides. Indian Foreign Minister Indira Gandhi threatened to resolve the Kashmir dispute with Pakistan through force, while China's Foreign Minister accused India of aggression and supported Pakistan.
Pakistan's military took defensive measures against India. The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Afzal Rahman Khan, ordered naval ships to take defensive positions in maritime boundaries. Pakistan Navy prepared its long-range submarine and PNS Ghazi to monitor Indian naval movements and counter potential threats from ships like INS Mysore and INS Delhi.
In the Jaurian sector, a platoon of the 6 Frontier Force Regiment, led by Second Lieutenant Shabir Sharif, attacked an important Indian position in Troti. Despite heavy casualties, Sharif led multiple attacks, rescuing wounded soldiers and forcing an Indian artillery gun to retreat. For his leadership and bravery, Sharif was awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat.
The Pakistan Air Force successfully thwarted attempts by the Indian Air Force to violate Pakistani airspace.
Meanwhile, the Chinese state newspaper People's Daily reported that Pakistani armed forces had pushed back Indian troops to the Line of Control in self-defense after Indian forces forcibly entered Pakistani territory.
