Pakistani actress Hania Aamir reacted to a row sparked by a deepfake video that went viral across social media.
The AI video showed Aamir attired inappropriately. It was quite shocking and left many fans and viewers in a state of bewilderment. The video came out and started trending across various social media platforms before people started taking it as a real video of Amir.
But soon, a lot of eagle-eyed viewers marked the video as a deep fake-a kind of synthetic media made with AI technology. A few users speculated that the man in the video was an Indian model and strikingly resembles Aamir.
As the video started trending, media and social media began debating the implications of the same. And in response, Aamir took to his Instagram to clear the air.
She goes into her Instagram story story with a message, alarmed by the situation, and asks, "These AI-created things are so scary. Can't there be any law that can be made against this?" And she even clarifies that the video is not of her: "These are not my videos, and anyone thinking they are-are mistaken.
Aamir is a leading face in Pakistani television and film. Her skill has been reflected in much-hit dramas like "Janaan," "Na Maloom Afraad 2," and "Parwaaz Hai Junoon." Her work on television includes famous serials such as "Titli," "Phir Wohi Mohabbat," and "Mere Humsafar." Strong on social media, with around 14.8 million subscribers, Aamir was truly bound to become a target of this sort of content.
Matters became even grave when an Indian fan, Anureet Sandhu, chimed in with the fun using filters to appear like Aamir himself. This issue has shown the way in which AI technology might get dangerous if used unethically.
Coming to Aamir's support, his stylist Mavi Kiani reshared Aamir's Instagram story, demanding accountability by a disturbed mind. Kiani wrote on her post, "This is horrible!! And yes there should be accountability! Shame on people who do it n get fun or thrills on other ppl's expense. Whosoever you are. may you rot in hell."
Aamir's fans have come out in support, strongly condemning the misuse of AI technologies. Their contention is that, while AI can be an effective tool for positive uses, its application in creating misleading or harmful content cannot be accepted.
