A Defence Day ceremony was held at the Ghazian-e-Dograi Memorial in Lahore Cantonment's martyrs' cemetery. Pakistan Army troops presented a salute, and floral wreaths were laid at the memorial.
The monument honors 106 martyrs from the 16 Punjab Regiment who sacrificed their lives defending Dograi during the 1965 war, halting the Indian army's advance. This achievement earned the platoon the title "Guardians of Lahore" and "Ghazian-e-Dograi."
Veterans of the 1965 and 1971 wars, including Major General (Retd) Sikandar Shami, Brigadier (Retd) Sher Afgan, and Major General (Retd) Ghulam Dastgir, shared their wartime experiences at the event.
The veterans paid tribute to their martyred comrades and praised the Pakistan Army's unwavering spirit in defending the nation. They emphasized the desire for martyrdom as a distinguishing feature of the Pakistani armed forces.
