Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Senator Raza Rabbani reiterated on Wednesday the demand for holding timely elections in the country.
Expressing his thoughts in Islamabad, Rabbani said,’’ The ECP had already violated the constitution by not holding the elections within 90 days after the dissolution of the assemblies.’’
’’ The electoral watchdog has no excuse for delaying the elections under the guise of delimitation. The delay in the announcement of the election date is due to political and economic instabilities, ’’ Rabbani maintained.
He urged the ECP to see the matter in line with the Reko Diq project, adding that it was a decisive economic decision that did not fall within the mandate provided by the Election Act.

Expressing his thoughts in Karachi, Mr Memon reiterated: “There is a dire need to hold elections quickly to ensure transparency.”
He underscored the contributions made by the PPP in the country’s political scenario. “None of the parties has made sacrifices like the PPP. The PPP has made great sacrifices to uphold democracy”.
Recalling the events that transpired on May 9, Mr Memon said, “May 9 event is the blackest chapter of the country’s history.”
Mr Memon took a swipe at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying, “The selective people were deliberately subjected to the political vendetta by the PTI.”
