The Punjab government has immediately enforced Section 144 in five districts of the province, citing security threats.
According to an official notification from the Home Department, the ban will remain in place for three days, from Saturday, October 12, to Monday, October 14.
The districts affected by the ban include Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, and Kot Addu. During this period, all forms of political gatherings, sit-ins, meetings, and protests are strictly prohibited. The move is aimed at maintaining law and order and safeguarding public property in light of potential security risks.
The decision to impose Section 144 was made in response to requests from the local district administrations, which expressed concerns that public gatherings could become soft targets for terrorist activities.
The Home Department has issued a formal notification to ensure compliance with the emergency measures.
The government has urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities during this period to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward incidents.
Last week, Section 144 was implemented in Lahore and Sargodha, and the Punjab government even called in Rangers in Lahore.
Section 144 was meant to be enforced in Lahore from October 3 to 8. The services of three companies of Rangers were called in Lahore for October 5. The government had also imposed Section 144 in Sargodha for three days, from October 4 to 6 during which demonstrations and protests were prohibited.
