Punjab Police on Thursday arrested hundreds of students and miscreants from various cities of Punjab, who allegedly vandalized the private college campuses across the province including the metropolis Lahore, protesting against the unconfirmed and alleged rape case of the female students on campus.
Lahore was the center of protests after an alleged rape of a private college student sparked outrage wherein students and 'miscreants' vandalized properties, set fire to motorcycles, and clashed with the police.
Lahore Police arrested a case registered at Harbanspura police station by sub-inspector Usman Akbar, citing that 200 to 250 unknown individuals were involved.
According to the FIR, protesters attacked the police with petrol bombs, resulting in the burning of six motorcycles and significant damage to the college. Police have arrested 24 individuals involved in the vandalism.
Rawalpindi: Protests outside campus lead to mass detentions
In Rawalpindi, private college students held protests outside the campus in solidarity with the Lahore incident. The demonstration, however, soon turned violent, resulting in the detention of over 150 people by the local police. Authorities warned that acts of vandalism, arson, or any illegal activity will not be tolerated. Jhelum witnessed severe unrest as 49 students were arrested for vandalizing a private college, torching property, and clashing with the police. The students were transferred to Thana City police station, and a case has been filed at the Kalagjaran police station against 49 named individuals and 400 unknown suspects. The charges include rioting, arson, encircling the college, blocking roads, and resisting police action. Concerned families of the arrested students gathered outside the police station, demanding the release of their children.

Earlier Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the individual responsible for spreading these rumors and inciting violence has been arrested and clarified that the case was fabricated and that the girl in question, a former Punjab College student, is now happily married. She promised to take action against all those involved in spreading the misinformation.
