Indian actor, producer and director Farhan Akhtar confirmed on Monday morning long-standing rumours about 'Mirzapur' big-screen adaptation.
Taking to Instagram, the filmmaker and co-producer of the popular series shared an announcement video featuring lead cast members Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, and Divyenndu. In the clip, the actors revealed, in the signature 'Mirzapur' style, that the series will now transition from the comfort of the living room to cinema halls, inviting fans to experience 'Mirzapur' on the big screen.

The teaser video also hinted at Divyenndu's return and included a glimpse of Abhishek Banerjee, though details about the full cast remain undisclosed. It appears that the original cast will reprise their roles, although rumours about Hrithik Roshan potentially portraying Kaleen Bhaiya have not been addressed by the creators.
The film adaptation of the Prime Video crime thriller series, which delves into power struggles and the criminal underworld in northern India's heartland, is slated for a 2026 release. Series creator Puneet Krishna will lead the project, with Gurmmeet Singh, who directed 17 episodes of the series, taking on the role of director.
This announcement follows three successful seasons of the 'Mirzapur' series on Amazon Prime Video, with the first season premiering in 2018 and instantly captivating audiences. The show returned for a second season during the pandemic, and earlier this year, a third season was released to enthusiastic reception.
Speaking about bringing the series to theatres, Producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar of Excel Entertainment expressed their excitement, describing the film as a landmark step for the franchise. “It is a landmark milestone for us to bring the quintessential Mirzapur experience to our audiences, yet again, but this time on the big screen. Over the course of three successful seasons, this acclaimed franchise has struck all the right chords with fans through its powerful storytelling and memorable characters – from the likes of Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Bhaiya, and Munna Bhaiya, to name a few. We believe that adapting such a treasured series into a film will undoubtedly make for an even more engrossing watch, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in the world of Mirzapur like never before. We are stoked to collaborate with Prime Video, once again, and look forward to delivering a grand cinematic experience, which will truly live up to the expectations of our dedicated fanbase.”
Manish Menghani, the director of Content Licensing at Prime Video India, highlighted 'Mirzapur' as one of India’s most beloved franchises, known for its nuanced characters, memorable dialogues, and gripping plot. “With its nuanced characters, unforgettable dialogues, and riveting storyline, Mirzapur has established itself as one of the most-loved franchises among audiences of today’s era. We take pride in crafting tailored content that reflects the diverse tastes of our viewers and are committed to backing local stories that resonate deeply and engage on a personal level, allowing them to connect with narratives that are both authentic and immersive. As Mirzapur continues to garner widespread acclaim, we are ecstatic to expand this franchise into theatres, offering fans a thrilling cinematic experience. In collaboration with our long-standing partner that shares our creative vision, Excel Entertainment, this ambitious announcement marks a new exciting chapter in the world of Mirzapur as we embark on this new journey.”
