Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday made it clear that the federal government will fund new schools in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to details, the premier laid the foundation of the first Daanish School Science and Technology Centre of Excellence in Bhimber, AJK, highlighting his government’s dedication to providing quality education to underprivileged children in remote areas.
Speaking at the ceremony, PM Shehbaz declared the initiative a transformative step for the region.
He explained that the project aimed to fulfil the dreams of talented children from disadvantaged backgrounds by granting them access to high-standard education.
"The Daanish School will be a beacon of hope for the children of less-developed areas who aspire to a brighter future," he stated.
The prime minister outlined the facilities the schools would offer, including free books, meals, and boarding for students.
He also announced the establishment of separate campuses for boys and girls, ensuring equal opportunities for all.
He directed authorities to complete construction and operationalise the school within one year.
PM Shehbaz attributed the vision of the Daanish School initiative to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, under whose leadership the programme first launched in Punjab.
"Thousands of students from these schools are now serving in key sectors, proving the success of this initiative," he said.
The prime Mlinister reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to funding additional Daanish Schools in AJK, as well as in other underserved regions such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's merged districts.
Addressing the plight of Kashmiris, Mr Sharif condemned Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir, asserting that his government would continue to extend unwavering diplomatic, political, and moral support until their right to self-determination was realised. "The sacrifices of Kashmiris will not be in vain. They will achieve their freedom," he vowed.
Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Amir Muqam, praised the launch of the Daanish School project in Bhimber, terming it a "game-changer." He announced plans to establish three additional schools in AJK.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Prime Minister, Anwarul Haq, expressed gratitude for the initiative, recognising it as a monumental step for the underdeveloped district of Bhimber. "This project illuminates the path of knowledge for our children," he said.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui lauded the educational focus of the programme, stating, "Nations achieve progress through education."
"This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of educational empowerment," said Siddiqui.
