Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan made no appeal for any concession in a letter addressed to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, stated PTI’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry on Monday.
Speaking outside Adiala Jail, Chaudhry revealed that the former prime minister had initiated communication with the army chief and expressed his expectations for an effective response in the larger interest of the nation. “In his message, he affirmed that the army belongs to the country and urged the people to stand behind it in unity,” he said.
The legal counsel stated that authorities facilitated a meeting between Khan, his family, and legal representatives in accordance with standard operating procedures. However, despite court orders, Bushra Bibi was not allowed to meet her husband, a matter he strongly condemned. “Bushra Bibi has been kept in solitary confinement,” Chaudhry asserted.
He said that certain elements in the country had been deliberately preventing political stability. “Yesterday, there was discussion about a policy shift, yet today, it has been openly violated,” he added.
Chaudhry also accused the ruling coalition of disregarding the public’s mandate. “On 8 February last year, our electoral mandate was stolen. On the same date this year, we will observe a black day,” he declared.
PTI leader Aliya Hamza had submitted a request to hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan, but the administration had denied permission, he stated. “Media freedom in Pakistan has been stifled through laws such as PECA,” he claimed.
He further remarked that the country’s economic conditions had deteriorated to an alarming extent. “The real reason behind the rise in terrorism is the undue targeting of PTI by the institutions,” he said, holding the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) responsible for the prevailing situation.
