A small aircraft crashed into a public bus in Sao Paulo early this morning, igniting a massive fire. The accident occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. local time on Avenida Marques de Sao Vicente in the Barra Funda district, according to reports from foreign media.
The aircraft, identified as a King Air F90, went down while attempting an emergency landing. The plane had taken off just five minutes earlier from Campo de Marte Airport before losing control. Authorities have not yet disclosed the number of people onboard the aircraft, but the King Air F90 has a capacity of eight passengers.
Fortunately, there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash. Emergency responders arrived quickly to extinguish the fire and assess the damage. Officials have yet to confirm casualties or injuries from the crash.
This incident follows another deadly aviation accident in Brazil in late December, when a small jet carrying a family of ten crashed into the tourist town of Gramado in southern Brazil. That crash killed all onboard and injured at least 17 people on the ground. The aircraft struck multiple buildings, including a home and a furniture store, before debris from the explosion hit a guesthouse.
Brazilian aviation authorities are investigating the cause of today’s crash in Sao Paulo, with preliminary reports suggesting technical failure. More details are expected as the investigation progresses.
