Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Faisal Chaudhry was released on Friday evening after being arrested briefly from outside Adiala Jail.
Chaudhry's arrest comes a day after a heated altercation with police officers at the same location.
According to sources, Faisal Chaudhry had engaged in a brawl with law enforcement personnel outside Adiala Jail on Thursday while attempting to meet detained party members. The confrontation reportedly escalated when police attempted to disperse PTI supporters gathered outside the facility.
Following the altercation, authorities moved swiftly, leading to Faisal Chaudhry’s arrest on Friday. He was taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
PTI officials condemned the arrest, calling it an act of political victimization, while police maintain that action was taken in accordance with the law.
After being released from custody, Faisal Chaudhry spoke to the media outside Adiala Jail. He said that the party leaders had gone to the jail to meet Imran Khan on a court order, but were not allowed to enter. "Our visit was for legal consultation --everyone knows the reasons," he remarked, adding that as they were leaving the premises, the police stopped him at the jail gate and asked him to accompany them.
"I was unjustly detained for two and a half hours under the pretext of a received request," he insisted, adding that they respected the workers arrested on May 9 and strongly condemned the rigging of the February 8, 2024 elections that he stressed they would never accept.
"The contents of the PTI founder's letter are crucial for the country's future," Chaudhry emphasized, adding that these were not accusations but bitter truths. "The current rulers have no regard for the people's interests -- they were not elected by the people," he criticizes.
