The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced that a rain system will enter Pakistan from February 18, while intermittent rain and snowfall continue in various parts of Azad Kashmir.
According to the Met Office, most parts of the country are expected to remain dry today (Monday), with humidity levels ranging between 31 to 35 percent. The air pollution index in the federal capital Islamabad stands at 152.
Following an extended dry spell, a rain system is forecast to enter Pakistan from February 18 to 20. During this period, there are chances of rainfall in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and some areas of central Punjab.
The Met Department reports that most districts of Punjab, including Lahore, will remain cloudy. While there's an ongoing interplay between sun and clouds today, no rainfall is expected, resulting in dry weather conditions.
Lahore experienced slightly cold weather early morning, with light fog covering the city and surrounding areas. According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, the M3 section of the motorway has been closed.
Reports indicate that the rain-bearing system will enter Pakistan tomorrow, with rainfall expected in various districts of Punjab on Tuesday. Today, Lahore recorded a minimum temperature of 10°C, with maximum temperatures likely to reach 25°C.
According to the Met Office, a strong western weather system will affect up to 80 percent of the country's northern areas. This system will impact KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, leading to snowfall in mountainous regions and heavy rainfall in several areas.
The Met Office forecasts good rainfall in Balochistan as a result of this system, with precipitation expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Chagai, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, Pishin, and Khuzdar.
The department reported the following minimum temperatures:
- Quetta: 0°C
- Kalat: 3°C
- Sibi: 12°C
- Turbat: 18°C
- Nokundi and Gwadar: 16°C
Regarding Sindh, while there's currently no immediate chance of rain from the present weather system, the new system may bring light drizzle to Sukkur, Larkana, and some other areas. Karachi is not expected to receive rainfall, though the weather may remain partially cloudy.
The Met Department forecasts good rainfall in Punjab from February 19 to 21, with southern and central regions likely to experience 2 to 3 spells of rain. Similarly, the federal capital Islamabad is expected to receive 2 to 3 spells of rainfall.
