The only main highway connecting Parachinar to Tall has been blocked for the past 142 days, leaving thousands of people struggling for food, medical assistance, and transportation.
According to social activist Haji Ali Jawad, the road closure has affected 1,500 students and around 2,000 overseas Pakistanis, while fuel prices have soared to Rs. 1,200 per liter due to the shortage.
The Transport Association stated that with public transport suspended, it has become extremely difficult for residents to commute.
Tribal elder Nazeer Ahmed expressed concern over the prolonged road closure, calling it unfortunate despite the peace agreement. He urged the government to ensure the safety of stranded residents and reopen the route immediately.
Security tightened in Kurram, crackdown announced
Meanwhile, after a recent firing incident in Lower Kurram, the district administration has ordered the evacuation of four villages: Ochit, Mandori, Dadkamar, and Bagan. Authorities have also decided to place individuals involved in anti-state activities under Schedule IV.
To restore law and order, the administration has announced a search operation and set bounties on the masterminds behind the violence.
On the other hand, Bagan victims continue their protest sit-in. Tribal leader Haji Kareem criticized the government’s evacuation orders, stating that innocent civilians should not be harassed while the real culprits remain free.
Stranded citizens, students, and overseas Pakistanis are urging the authorities to immediately reopen the highway and restore essential services.
