The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been vocal in opposing the proposed increase in salaries of parliamentarians, but no PTI senator has officially declined the raise in writing, according to Senate Secretary Hasnain Haider.
Speaking to Samaa TV, Haider confirmed that the Senate Secretariat has not received any written notification from PTI senators refusing the additional salary. He further clarified that the increased salary payments have not yet begun, as the bill regarding salary and allowance increments has not been ratified by the president.
The Senate secretary emphasized that if any member does not wish to accept the increase, they must formally inform the Senate Secretariat. However, no such request has been received from any PTI senator so far.
Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar had earlier stated that senators unwilling to accept the pay raise should submit their refusal in writing.
According to Senate officials, the notification for the revised salaries will only be issued after the president’s approval of the bill. Until then, no additional payments will be processed.
